TOWN COUNCIL PRESENTATION

by Jack Seery

6-9-09

The Friends of the Waterboro Public Library have five streams of energy at work at present. It is exciting to watch new life unfold as we move toward building our new library.

In history of the new library, the Supporters meeting that was held at the Snowmobile Club on March 20th will mark a significant turning point in the history of the new library. The 25 people that participated provided some very valuable suggestions and generated new energy.

1. Major Donor Committee (Rick Cress, Leo Binette, Victor Wright, Debbie Downs, Jon Gale and Jack Seery) has met twice and is focused on raising money from major donors. We are developing ways to encourage individuals and businesses to make pledged donations to the new library.

2. Marketing: The meeting focused our attention on marketing efforts. We have begun working with Kerry DeAngelis on developing a marketing plan and doing much better marketing of new library.

3. Professional Fundraiser: Representative Wagner, looked for a professional fundraiser for us. He consulted people he knew and that process put us in touch with Patsy Wiggins. She is well known to Mainers from her days at Channel 6 and Public TV. She is very interested in working with us and I will meet with her on June 18th. If that meeting goes well, I will set up a meeting between Patsy and the FOWPL and the Donor Committee.

My intent is to integrate those three streams of energy by the end of the summer and set out a fundraising and marketing plan by that time.

4. Referendum June 2010: We are committed to doing everything we can in order to present a referendum proposal to the people of Waterboro at the Town Meeting in June 2010. Our immediate task will be to present a revised Capital Improvement Plan proposal to the Town Planner in early fall. We will have a revised cost estimate before that time.

5. Other forms of fundraising

Clink bags – Recycle returnable bottle and cans and help the new library at the same time. Roxie Wright has set up a Friends account with Clink process at Hannaford. The Clink bags are available at the library. They have a FOWPL bar code so proceeds go to the new library. We hope to have bags at Town Hall in the near future.

Old Home Days – we will be present at OHD and will provide updated information regarding the new library and we will have some raffle items

Annual Mega Sale – August 15th 8:00 – 1:00

we encourage you to donate sellable books to library that we can sell at the Mega Sale. The books need to be in good share and sellable. There are

guidelines are at library.

I will keep you abreast of developments so check this website often.
